Mark Kirunchyk
Working as a police officer with the Hawthorne Police Department for 20 years, Mark Kirunchyk thought he knew what it meant to serve and protect the community. He spent 10 years as a gang detective, was a two-time recipient of the Sustained Superiority Award, and in 2011, was awarded the Medal of Valor. However, when Mark retired from the department, he got a new perspective on serving. Incited by a colleague’s initiative, Coffee with a Cop, Mark founded 10K with a Cop in 2018, which inspires youth to run weekly with police officer mentors and complete a 10k run at the end of each school year. That passion for building safer communities and creating a better future for the next generation also led Mark to create the Healthy Room Project. Mark is also the executive director of Run to Remember Los Angeles, a non-profit running event that honors fallen first responders.
